Job Description

The Produce Manager oversees the daily operations, merchandising, inventory, staffing, and financial performance of the produce department. The position ensures that fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other fresh products are available in appropriate quantities and maintained at high standards of freshness, appearance, and quality. The manager develops ordering plans, monitors seasonal demand, and coordinates with suppliers and distribution centers to support consistent product availability.

Responsibilities include inspecting deliveries, forecasting demand, rotating inventory, removing damaged products, and monitoring shrink and waste. The manager creates attractive displays, ensures accurate pricing and signage, and supervises employees responsible for stocking, preparation, and customer service. The role also trains staff on food safety, proper storage, sanitation, and customer-service standards.

The Produce Manager reviews sales reports, gross margins, inventory levels, labor expenses, and product loss to identify opportunities for improvement. The position may coordinate promotional activities, seasonal merchandising plans, and local product initiatives. Successful performance requires strong organization, product knowledge, team leadership, customer awareness, and the ability to balance freshness, availability, and profitability.
