Pharmacy Technician Trainee

Job Description

The Pharmacy Technician Trainee receives structured workplace training to develop the skills required for pharmacy support work. Under appropriate supervision, the trainee learns prescription-processing procedures, pharmacy computer systems, medication inventory practices, customer-service standards, and the safety requirements associated with working in a pharmacy. The position is intended for individuals entering the pharmacy profession who need practical experience before taking on additional authorized responsibilities.

Responsibilities include observing experienced technicians and pharmacists, assisting with basic administrative tasks, organizing supplies, learning prescription data-entry procedures, and following instructions for handling pharmacy records. As training progresses, the trainee may assist with permitted prescription preparation, labeling, inventory checks, refill coordination, and customer transactions. The trainee must ask for clarification when uncertain and refer medication-related questions to qualified pharmacy personnel.

The role requires punctuality, willingness to learn, careful attention to detail, and a strong commitment to patient privacy and safety. The trainee participates in required training and assessments and follows all applicable supervision rules. Depending on the employer and state, the position may require registration, background checks, or completion of a recognized training or certification pathway.
